Information is provided for all the local parks, current events and senior citizen activities. Please contact the township offices if the information you are seeking is not currently available on the website.

Sumpter Township is a rural community of 9,549 residents in the southwest corner of Wayne County, midway between the urban areas of Ann Arbor and Detroit.  It encompases an area of approximately 37.5 square miles.

The community consists of diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds and the residents take pride in their surroundings of woodlands, wetlands, prairies and agricultural lands. Roadside stands with fresh farm produce, horseback riding trails at Crosswind Marsh Preserve, a Wayne County park, and abundant wildlife, are all amenities of the "country life" that residents enjoy.

Sumpter Township is located in southwest Wayne County Michigan and its boundries are defined by Rawsonville Rd, Oakville Waltz Rd, Clark Rd. and Bemis Rd.

The Obituary

Mr. Clarence Joseph Hoffman, Jr. passed away, Friday July 14th, 2017. He was born August 20th, 1937 in Detroit Ml, the son of Clarence Joseph and Barbara Beatrice (Monroe) Hoffman. In 1968, he was married to Janet Marie Clark. They have been long time residents of Sumpter Township. Mr. Hoffman proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. Clarence was a 32nd degree mason and a Shriner. He served a long career of public service in Sumpter Township. He served as Supervisor for four years, Treasurer for two years, and Trustee for four years, and was the present Clerk for seventeen years. He was a member of the Constable Association for ten years, and was Vice-President of the Wayne Division. He was a member of the Michigan Democratic Party, Sumpter Seniors, Lyon's Club, and Association of Wayne County Clerks. He was one of the founding members of Nourishing Gardens Food Bank, an outreach program developed in 2003 to help low income residents in Sumpter Township. He also was a member for CAF 5, the community assistance foundation. Prior to his retirement in 2000, he had been employed by Ford Motor Company as a Tooling Engineer for forty four years. His passion for service was strong, but could not compare to the love for his family. Mr. Hoffman was the beloved husband of Janet for forty-nine years. Dear father of Barbara (Douglas) Laura, Dyann Hoffman, Janet R. Hoffman, and Clarence J. Hoffman Ill. Fond grandfather of Adriana Laura, Kobe Gary, Brooklynn Gary, and Natalie Laura. Mr. Hoffman was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. He leaves to mourn his family, brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews, as well as a host of friends. Please keep the Hoffman family in your thoughts and prayers.
